Propylene AC and AD were developed in 2022 by Fluorchem Corporation Advanced Materials. It was originally intended as companion products for Propylene 204.
The majority of the development work for AC and AM were carried out between fourth-quarter 2022 and first-quarter 2023 with the first functional products being produced in Q1 2023.
Propylene AC-2 is based off a proprietary fluorochemical formula using new generation fluorinated acrylic copolymers and dimers which repel water and oil.
Pictued to the right is the first ever produced can of Propylene AC-2 in November 2022.
Over the past quarter being Q1 2023, we completed the first full scale production test runs of Propylene AC and AD products within our manufacturing facility.
Throughout January and February we completed multiple test runs of Propylene AD-2, ensuring consistent production performance of our units and overall product integrity. Although mostly satisfactory, the release of Propylene AD will be delayed to Q4 2023.
Shortly before the end of Q1 in March, we also completed production runs of Propylene AC-2 and overall results remain excellent, both in product quality and manufacturing performance. We expect a release within Q3 or along with AD in Q4.
The Propylene A Class development programme was launched on 15 August 2022, following the commercial introduction of Propylene 204 in 2021. Initial production trials were conducted in Q1 2023, resulting in three experimental runs: AC-2, AD-2, and AM-1. After technical issues were identified with AD-2 and AM-1 in Q1 2023, development efforts were prioritised toward AC-2.
AC-2 advanced into extended performance testing through to Q1 2024. In March 2024, testing was terminated and development suspended after abnormalities were identified during evaluation. Although commercial release had been anticipated in 2023, Fluorchem Corporation no longer intends to proceed with the sale of Propylene AC-2 at this time.
Some information pertaining to the development and testing of Propylene AC-2 has been made public starting Q3 2024.
