Propylene AC-2 (Acrylic Copolymer No.2) was developed mainly between 2022 and 2023 by Fluorchem Corporation Fluorochemical Operations. It was originally intended as a companion product for Propylene 204.
The majority of the development work for AC-2 was carried out between fourth-quarter 2022 and first-quarter 2023 with the first functional product being produced in March 2023.
Propylene AC-2 is based off a proprietary fluorochemical formula using new generation fluorinated acrylic copolymers which repel water and oil.
Development programme for Propylene AC-2 was launched on 15 August 2022 when Propylene 204 had completed all trials and was being sold. By 2 March 2023, the first functional product of Propylene AC-2 was produced. The first tests of AC-2 on fabrics began on 5 April 2023 and were carried out until March 2024. Throughout testing, continued changes were made to the formulation of AC-2.
In March 2024, the testing programme was terminated and development suspended due to abnormalities discovered during testing. Originally expected to release in 2023, Fluorchem Corporation no longer intends on the commercial sale of Propylene AC-2 at the present time.
Some information pertaining to the development and testing of Propylene AC-2 has been made public starting third-quarter 2024.
