The production of Siloxanes including E900 (Dimethicone) and D5 (Cyclopentasiloxane) was initiated by Fluorchem Corporation Advanced Materials as possible alternatives to fluorinated hydrocarbons in hydrophobic coatings. Siloxanes including E900 and D5 are hydrophobic to a high degree as well as being highly inert. We began the testing of siloxanes for use as hydrophobic coatings in 2021 and 2022 and began a large scale production programme in 2022 for the production of test hydrophobic coating products. As siloxanes are popular ingredients in cosmetics often use as surfactants, defoaming agents, lubricants and emollients, these products were sold by Fluorchem Corporation as product output of production units was frequently not being fully utilized by Fluorochemical research. Similarly, the production of acrylates including Ethyl acrylate and Ethyl methacrylate was also initiated in 2022. Just like siloxanes, acrylates too are popular ingredients in cosmetics particularly in the artificial eyelash and nail industries where cosmetic safe adhesives are needed. These products were sold by Fluorchem Corporation as product output of production units was frequently not being fully utilised by Fluorochemical research.
Production of Phenoxyethanol (Ethylene glycol monophenyl ether) was also initiated by Fluorchem Corporation Fluorochemical Operations in conjunction with siloxanes and acrylates in 2022. Phenoxyethanol is not being utilized in any fluorochemical product research but was produced to maintain a competitive portfolio of cosmetics chemicals and ensure success in the marketplace. Phenoxyethanol is one of the most common chemicals found in nearly all modern-day cosmetic products including moisturizing lotion, tanning lotion, soaps, conditioners, concealer, blush and more. It is produced by Fluorchem Corporation Advanced Materials through hydroxyethylation of phenol.

In in second and third quarter 2023, with the formulation of initial prototype products of Propylene 150 and Propylene AC2, as well as other tests being conducted, it was determined that siloxane and acrylate counterparts to fluorinated products were not effective substitutes and did not meet performance expectations.
The commercial sale of excess siloxane and acrylate product volume as cosmetics had been ongoing since 31 December 2022 and in April 2023, our cosmetic chemicals line exceeded our market performance expectations at that time. By September 2023, market performance had declined as a result of combined factors including low supply capabilities and manufacturing output downturn. Although the cosmetic chemicals line had been continuing to produce a net profit, the continued operation of production units were no longer the most cost effective use of faciltiies for Fluorchem Corporation Advanced Materials. It was subsequently decided to terminate the cosmetic chemicals line at the close of fourth financial quarter, 2023.
